How could we help but feel once more in this hour the miracle that brought us together! Once you heard the voice of a man, and that voice knocked at your hearts it wakened you, and you followed that voice. For years you pursued it, without ever having seen the owner of that voice. You simply heard a voice and followed it.
When we meet here today, we are all filled with the miraculous
nature of this gathering, Not every one of you can see me, and I cannot
see every one of you. Yet I feel you, and you feel me! It is the faith in our
Volk that has made small people great, that has made poor people
rich, that has made wavering, discouraged, fearful, people brave and courageous,
that has made us, the wayward, see, and has joined us together!
Thus you come from your little villages, from your small market towns, from your
cities, from the mines and the factories, leaving the plow. One day you come
into this city. You come from the limited environment of your daily
life-struggle and of your struggle for Germany and our Volk, to have for once
the feeling: now we are together. We are with him, and he is with us, and we are
now Germany!
Wie fühelen wir nicht wieder in diesser Stunde das Wunder,
das uns zusammenführte! Ihr habt einst die Stimme eines Mannes vernommen, und
sie shlug an eure Herzen, sie hat euch geweckt, und ihr seid dieser Stimme
gefolgt. Ihr seid ihr jahrelang nachgegangen, ohne den Träger der Stimme auch
nur gesehen zu haben; ihr habt nur eine Stimme gehört und seid ihr gefolgt.
Wenn wir uns hier treffen, dann erfüllt uns alle das Wundersame dieses
Zusammenkommens. Nicht jeder von euch sieht mich und nicht jeden von euch sehe
ich. Aber ich fühle euch, und ihr fühlt mich! Es ist der Glaube an unser Volk,
der uns kleine Menschen groß gemacht hat, der uns arme Menschen reich gemacht
hat, der uns wankende, mutlose, ängstliche Menschen tapfer und mutig gemacht
hat; der uns Irrende sehend machte und der uns zusammenfügte!
So kommt ihr aus euren kleinen Dörfen, aus euren Marktflecken, aus euren Städten,
aus Gruben und Fabriken, vom Pflug hinweg an einem Tag in diese Stadt. Ihr kommt,
um aus der kleinen Umwelt eures täglichen Lebenskampfes und eures Kampfes um
Deutschland und für unser Volk einmal das Gefühl zu bekommen: Nun sind wir
beisammen, sind bei ihm und er bei uns wir sind jetzt Deutschland!"
