EVA PERON TRIBUTE VIDEOS

eva peron

Eva Perón (1919-1952), also referred to as Evita (a term of endearment), was the first lady of Argentinian President Juan Perón (1895-1974). She was immensely popular among the Argentinian people. She commanded so much respect that she was given the title "Spiritual Leader of the Nation" by the Argentine Congress. She was also given a state funeral at her death, an honor generally reserved for heads of state.

She was born in the village of Los Toldos, Argentina as the youngest of five children. At 15 in 1934, she moved to the nation's capital of Buenos Aires to pursue a career as a stage, radio and film actress. At age 22 in 1944, she met Colonel Juan Perón a charity event. The two were married the following year. After Juan Perón was elected President of Argentina in 1946, Eva became a powerful figure in the pro-peronist trade unions, primarily in speaking out on labor rights. She also ran the Ministries of Labor and Health, founded and ran the charitable Eva Perón Foundation, championed women's suffrage in Argentina, and founded and ran the nation's first large-scale female political party, the Female Peronist Party.

She was greatly loved and much adored by the Argentinian people - especially among those of low income, and the working class Argentinians referred to as descamisados or "shirtless ones."

Below we have included two powerful tribute videos of Eva along with some useful links to material about her life and legacy.
